For us three sisters, P 9058 has been in our lives since we were young adults in 1964, when dad bought it brand new from the authorized dealer in Borås. Today, we own this almost unique example of the Mercedes Benz brand together, more specifically a Mercedes Benz 220 SE Coupé (Model W111). It has never been a car for daily use, it has only been used on mom and dad’s vacation trips and in recent years for graduations, weddings and other celebrations.

Sven Johansson

Sven, our father, was born in 1906 on a farm in Hyssna, Sweden, which today would be described as relatively close to Gothenburg Airport. His brothers and father emigrated to the US and his upbringing was sometimes tough. After World War II, he started dealing in cars. Over the years, he built up a substantial car dealership that was never brand-specific. Instead, it almost became an institution where many people from both Gothenburg and Borås were repeat customers knowing that they could trust him to get them what they wanted!

Sven was active in the company until he in his 80s and the business was always located on the old farm where he was born and lived his whole life, even though there were many new buildings and modernizations. The picture shows the farm before new houses and businesses.

P 9058

As our father’s business grew, the private car fleet was upgraded. For example, our mother, Agnes, drove a Chevrolet Camaro from the late 60s until she passed away in the late 80s.

Our dad Sven always liked Mercedes and had several, some as utility cars, but P 9058 was a jewel in the collection. The car has always been stored in a heated garage and most of the time propped up and covered.

  • 1964-05-15 from Philipsson, authorized Mercedes dealer in Borås, Sweden. (Our father worked closely with them when his customers wanted Mercedes alternatives.)

  • First registered as P 1840 (P standing for Älvsborg, a region in southwest Sweden) but after paying 2 kronor (€0,20) fee and a deposit of 8 kronor (€0,80) deposition it became P 9058
• Maintenance has always been of the highest standard. With our own workshop and employed mechanics everything has always been top notch. I.e:
  • First lube change after 500 km 1964.
  • Regularly given anti corrosion treatments, first time 1964
  • Ditec Original Paint Preservation
  • Original interior, inclusive floor mats. The original floor mats have for most of the time been covered with rubber extras.
  • Regular, authorised service at the dealer in Borås.

The Model

The W111 220SE Coupé was produced from 1961 to 1965. A total of 14,173 vehicles were produced. It was then replaced by the 250SE Coupé. Today it is a popular collector’s item.

The Future

The car is a treasure for us sisters, we grew up and worked in the car industry so we also know that it is a collector’s item. With children and grandchildren spread across large parts of Sweden, the US, southern Europe and Asia, we would like to find a new home for the car, someone who truly appreciates its value.

It is currently stored in warm storage in Hyssna, Sweden, but if there is serious interest, most things can be arranged for inspection and test drive.
